Introduction
Social computing is concerned with the intersection of social behaviour and computing systems, creating or recreating social conventions and social contexts through the use of software and technology. Various social computing applications such as blogs, email, instant messaging, social networking (Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.), wikis, and social bookmarking have been widely popularised where people interact socially via computing space. Such applications have been profoundly impacting social behaviour and life style of human beings while pushing the boundary of computing technology simultaneously. While people can enjoy or even indulge in the benefits such as freedom and convenience brought about by social computing, various critical issues such as privacy protection, touch-screen based arty HCI design, and modelling of social behaviour in computing space still remain challenging.
SCA (Social Computing and its Applications) is created to provide a prime international forum for both researchers, industry practitioners and environment experts to exchange the latest fundamental advances in the state of the art and practice of Social Computing and broadly related areas.

Submission Guidelines
Submissions must include an abstract, keywords, the e-mail address of the corresponding author and should not exceed 8 pages for main conference, including tables and figures in IEEE CS format. The template files for LATEX or WORD can be downloaded here. All paper submissions must represent original and unpublished work. Each submission will be peer reviewed by at least three program committee members. Submission of a paper should be regarded as an undertaking that, should the paper be accepted, at least one of the authors will register for the conference and present the work. Publications
Accepted and presented papers will be included into the IEEE Conference Proceedings published by IEEE CS Press (Indexed by EI). Authors of accepted papers, or at least one of them, are requested to register and present their work at the conference, otherwise their papers may be removed from the digital libraries of IEEE CS and EI after the conference.

Distinguished papers presented at the conference, after further revision, will be published in special issues of high quality SCI indexed international journals which are: World Wide Web Journal; The Computer Journal; and Journal of Systems and Software.

Opinions play a primary role in decision-making processes. Whenever people need to make a choice, they are naturally inclined to hear others’ opinions. In particular, when the decision involves consuming valuable resources, such as time and/or money, people strongly rely on their peers’ past experiences. Just a few years ago, the main sources for collecting such information were friends, acquaintances and, in some cases, specialized magazines or websites.

The passage from a read-only to a read-write Web has provided people with new tools that allow them to create and share, in a timely and cost-efficient way, their own contents, ideas, and opinions with virtually millions of people connected to the World Wide Web. The opportunity to capture the opinions of the general public about social events, political movements, company strategies, marketing campaigns, and product preferences has raised more and more interest both in the scientific community, for the exciting emergent challenges, and in the business world, for the remarkable fallouts in marketing and financial market prediction.

Mining opinions and sentiments from natural language, however, is an extremely difficult task: it involves a deep understanding of most of the explicit and implicit, regular and irregular, syntactical and semantic rules of a language. Existing approaches mainly rely on parts of text in which opinions and sentiments are explicitly expressed such as polarity terms, affect words, and their co-occurrence frequencies. However, opinions and sentiments are often conveyed implicitly through latent semantics, which make purely syntactical approaches ineffective.

In this light, this special issue focuses on the introduction, presentation, and discussion of novel approaches to opinion mining and sentiment analysis that are not entirely based on domain-dependent corpora but also on general-purpose semantic knowledge bases. The main motivation for the issue, in particular, is to go beyond a mere word-level analysis of text and provide novel concept-level approaches to opinion mining and sentiment analysis that allow a more efficient passage from (unstructured) textual information to (structured) machine-processible data, in potentially any domain.

Articles are thus invited in areas such as AI, the Semantic Web, knowledge-based systems, and adaptive and transfer learning for research on opinion and sentiment retrieval and analysis. Potential topics include

Submission Guidelines
The special issue will consist of papers on novel methods and techniques for building and using semantic knowledge bases in the field of opinion mining and sentiment analysis. Besides the specified topics of interest, the special issue also welcomes papers on specific application domains of sentiment analysis — for example, social data mining, influence networks, customer experience management, computer-mediated human-human communication, social media marketing, multimedia management, personalization and persuasion, enterprise feedback management, human-agent, -computer and -robot interaction, intelligent user interfaces, patient opinion mining, surveillance, and art.

Submissions should be 3,000 to 5,400 words (counting a standard figure or table as 200 words) and should follow IEEE Intelligent Systems style and presentation guidelines (www.computer.org/intelligent/author). The manuscripts cannot have been published or be currently submitted for publication elsewhere.

We strongly encourage submissions that include audio, video, and community content, which will be featured on the IEEE Computer Society Web site along with the accepted papers.

In the past few years, mobile devices and wireless communication technologies have developed rapidly.
With the explosion of mobile applications and user demands, some characteristics of mobile devices such as limited resources (e.g., computation and storage capacity, battery power, etc.) significantly impede the improvement of QoS. Mobile Cloud Computing (MobiCC) is born to tackle these limitations by integrating cloud computing into the mobile environment. It enables users to elastically utilize resources in an on-demand fashion, takes full advantages of cloud computing, and brings new types of services and facilities to users by providing ubiquitous service access. Several organizations have predicted that cloud computing will completely transform the way in which mobile applications and services are cquired, developed and used.


However, there are still many obstacles for MobiCC, including service availability, mobility management, security, privacy, energy efficiency, etc. These problems must be carefully addressed before mobile could become the next big thing. This workshop seeks to bring together researchers and practitioners interested in all aspects of mobile cloud computing, including but not limited to:

This workshop invites authors to submit full papers representing original, unpublished work in all areas of mobile cloud computing (MobiCC) that are not concurrently under review elsewhere. All submissions will be reviewed by the Program Committee.

Paper submission

Submitted papers should be original and contain contributions of theoretical, experimental or application nature, or be unique experience reports.

Papers must be submitted within the stipulated time and electronic submission in PDF is required.
The page limit for a full-length paper is 6 pages.
Short papers describing novel research visions, work-in-progress or less mature results are also welcome, with a minimum limit of 4 pages.

Note: Papers less than 4 pages will not be reviewed and may be rejected outright!

All submissions should be in the IEEE 8.5 two-column format. Papers should contain up to 5 keywords.
Papers will be evaluated for originality, significance, clarity, and soundness, and will be reviewed by at least three independent reviewers.

The authors of the accepted papers will be allowed to make a correction in accordance with the suggestions of the reviewers and submit final camera-ready papers within the stipulated deadline. The conference proceedings will be distributed amongst the participants during the conference. Accepted papers must be presented by author(s) personally to be published in the conference proceedings.

Workshop Scope

Deep and quantitative behavior analysis such as in social network cannot be supported by traditional methodologies and techniques in behavioral sciences. This leads to the emergence of inter-disciplinary Behavior Representation, Modeling, Analysis and Management (namely Behavior Informatics). The 2012 International Workshop on Behavior Informatics (BI2012) provides an international forum for researchers and industry practitioners to share their ideas, original research results, as well as potential challenges and prospects encountered in Behavior Informatics.

The BI2012 workshop welcomes theoretical work and applied disseminations on the categories which will include but are not limited to the following:

1. Behavior modeling and analysis: formalizing individual and group behaviors, relationships and interactions, actor intention, behavioral impact and behavior networking.

2. Behavior impact learning: behaviors associated with high impacts are of particular importance, while impact-oriented behaviors are often sparse, rare and imbalanced isolated in business and data; identifying impact-oriented behavior patterns or anomales involves different pattern/anomaly types and computational challenges.

3. Analysis of behavior social networks: handling challenging issues such as convergence and divergence of behavior, and the evolution and emergence of hidden groups and communities.

Extracting discriminative behavior patterns or group behavior patterns from high-dimensional, high-frequency, high-density, and huge amount of data.

4. Coupled behaviors and behavior interactions: Behaviors of the same actor or different actors are often coupled or interact with each other. Learning such coupled behaviors,  behavior interactions and behavior relations are challenging and essential in behavior analysis. On the other hand, due to the highly overlapped nature of behavior data, it is extremely difficult to build a robust behavior model which is tolerant for one behavior category while differentiate amongst other categories.

5. Behavior data processing from transactional space to behavior feature space: Customer demographic and transactional data is generally privacy-oriented, distributed and not organized in terms of behavior but entity relationships. In such transactional entity spaces, behavioral elements are dispersed and hidden within complex business applications with weak or no direct linkages. As a result, current behavior analysis which focuses on exterior features in demographic and service usage data cannot effectively and explicitly scrutinize human behavior patterns and impacts on businesses. To support genuine behavior analysis on behavior interior, a challenging task is to extract and transform transactional behavior-related elements into explicit behavior features.

Paper Submissions

Paper submissions should be limited to a maximum of 5 pages in the IEEE 2-column format, and will have a peer review by the Program Committee on the basis of technical quality, relevance to the conference topics, originality, significance, and clarity.

Papers accepted by BI2012 will be published in the Workshop Proceedings published by IEEE Computer Society Press and will be available at the workshops.
