Introduction
------------
The ER International Conference on Conceptual Modeling is a leading
international forum for presenting and discussing current research and
applications in which the major emphasis is on conceptual modeling. Topics
of interest span the entire spectrum of conceptual modeling including
research and practice in areas such as: theories of concepts and
ontologies underlying conceptual modeling; methods and tools for
developing and communicating conceptual models; and techniques for
transforming conceptual models into effective implementations. Also of
interest are topics related to the interaction of conceptual modeling
techniques with business strategy models and the effects (economical,
organizational, and so forth) of good conceptual modeling techniques on
the development of information systems. We encourage submissions relating
to all aspects of conceptual modeling and specifically encourage research
on topics of emerging interest.


Target audiences and the scope
------------------------------
We solicit submission of original research, as well as experience and
vision papers, from both researchers and practitioners, welcoming any
topic where conceptual modeling is a major theme. We specifically
encourage submissions on the application and role of conceptual modeling
techniques in new and emerging areas such as large data repositories for
business intelligence, cloud computing and NoSQL databases.

Submission Guidelines

Since the proceedings will be published by Springer in the LNCS series,
authors must submit manuscripts using the LNCS style. See
http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html for style files and details.
The page limit for submitted papers (as well as for final, camera-ready
papers) is 14. Manuscripts not submitted in the LNCS style or exceeding
the page limit will not be reviewed and automatically rejected.

A paper submitted to ER 2013 may not be under review for any other
conference or journal during the time it is being considered for ER 2013.
Submitted papers must demonstrate to be aware of the state-of-the art
literature in conceptual modeling by properly citing relevant papers in
the field.

Submission to ER 2013 will be electronically managed via EasyChair.
Authors are asked to submit an abstract first, and then to upload the full
paper. The submission page of ER-2013 is

demonstrate awareness of the state-of-the-art of the literature in
conceptual modeling by properly citing relevant papers in the field.

Services account for a major part of the IT industry today. Companies increasingly
like to focus on their core expertise area and use IT services to address all their
peripheral needs. Services Computing is a new science which aims to study and better
understand the foundations of this highly popular industry. It covers the science
and technology of leveraging computing and information technology to model, create,
operate, and manage business services. Like its predecessors, SCC 2013 will contribute
in building the pillars of this important science and shaping the future of Services
Computing.

Services Computing currently shapes the thinking of business modeling, business
consulting, solution creation, service delivery, and software architecture design,
development and deployment. The global nature of Services Computing leads to many
opportunities and challenges and creates a new networked economic structure for
supporting different business models. SCC 2013 will help in bridging the gap between
business services and information technology by driving research in technologies such
as service-oriented architecture (SOA), business process integration and management,
service engineering and grid and cloud computing and Web 2.0.

Please use the SCC 2013 Conference Management System for Research Track to submit your
papers to SCC 2013 Research Track. Please check the Submission section for more submission
details for all tracks.

The technical program of SCC 2013 will include a research track, an application and experience
track, an industry track, and a work-in-progress track. The research track will highlight
foundational work that strives to push beyond the limits of existing business services
platforms and products, including experimental efforts, innovative systems and investigations
that identify weaknesses in the existing services computing technology.

The SCC 2013 research tracks seeks original, UNPUBLISHED research papers reporting substantive
new work in various aspects of services innovation lifecycle management. Research track papers
MUST clearly indicate their contributions to the field of services computing and properly cite
related work in the field, such as those published in the proceedings of ICWS, SCC, CLOUD,
SERVICES, APSCC, ECOWS, and related journals including TSC, JWSR, and IJBPIM.


All submitted manuscripts will be peer-reviewed by at least 3 program committee members.
Accepted and presented papers from all SCC tracks will appear in the conference proceedings
published by the IEEE Computer Society Press. Extended versions of selected research track
papers will be invited for potential publication in the IEEE Transactions on Services
Computing (TSC), International Journal of Web Services Research (JWSR), and International
Journal of Business Process Integration and Management (IJBPIM). Both TSC and JWSR are
indexed by SCI and EI [Link]. According to Thomson Scientific, JWSR is listed in the 2008
Journal Citation Report with an Impact Factor of 1.200. The journal ranks #47 of 99 in the
Computer Science, Information Systems and ranks #37 of 86 in Computer Science, Software
Engineering. SCC Proceedings are EI indexed.

Submitted research & industry track manuscripts will be limited to 8 (IEEE Proceedings style)
pages and REQUIRED to be formatted using the IEEE Proceedings template. Unformatted papers
and papers beyond the page limit will not be reviewed. Electronic submission of manuscripts
(in PDF or Word format) is required. Detailed instructions for electronic paper preparation
and submission, panel proposals, tutorial proposals, workshop proposals, and review process
can be found at conference website.

At least one author of each accepted paper is required to register to the conference and
present the paper. One Best Paper award and one Best Student Paper award will be granted at
SCC 2013. The first author of the best student paper must be a full-time student.

If your paper is application or solution oriented, you can consider submitting it to SCC 2013
Industry Track. Manuscripts submitted to the Research Track focusing on application or
solution descriptions may be recommended to the Application and Experience Track, or Industry
Track for further consideration if the session slots are available.

Review Policy

IEEE Policy and professional ethics require that referees treat the contents of papers under
review as privileged information not to be disclosed to others before publication. It is
expected that no one with access to a paper under review will make any inappropriate use of
the special knowledge, which that access provides. Contents of abstracts submitted to
conference program committees should be regarded as privileged as well, and handled in the
same manner. The Conference Publications Chair shall ensure that referees adhere to this
practice.

Organizers of IEEE conferences are expected to provide an appropriate forum for the oral
presentation and discussion of all accepted papers. An author, in offering a paper for
presentation at an IEEE conference, or accepting an invitation to present a paper, is
expected to be present at the meeting to deliver the paper. In the event that circumstances
unknown at the time of submission of a paper preclude its presentation by an author, the
program chair should be informed on time, and appropriate substitute arrangements should be
made. In some cases it may help reduce no-shows for the Conference to require advance
registration together with the submission of the final manuscript.

Founded in 2003, IEEE Computer Society's Technical Committee on Services Computing (TC-SVC)
is a multidisciplinary group whose purpose is to advance and coordinate work in the field of
Services Computing carried out throughout the IEEE in scientific, engineering, standard,
literary and educational areas.

Services Computing has become a cross-discipline that covers the science and technology of
bridging the gap between Business Services and IT Services. The underneath breaking technology
suite includes Web services and service-oriented architecture (SOA), cloud computing, business
consulting methodology and utilities, business process modeling, transformation and integration.
This scope of Services Computing covers the whole lifecycle of services innovation research
that includes business componentization, services modeling, services creation, services
realization, services annotation, services deployment, services discovery, services composition,
services delivery, service-to-service collaboration, services monitoring, services optimization,
as well as services management. The goal of Services Computing is to enable IT services and
computing technology to perform business services more efficiently and effectively.

New Springer Book (in German) - Kreatives Prozessdesign by Thomas Hermann

This is the new Springer book "Kreatives Prozessdesign" by my colleague Thomas Hermann from the Ruhr-Universtität Bochum in Germany.

Like most other human activities process design gets better if some creativity is involved. As the Germans are undoubted the master of process engineering sometimes a little bit of creativity can add to the innovative power of processes. This book is giving a lot of examples and principle ideas how to connect process modeling and creativity techniques.

Workshop Theme

Social software is a new paradigm that is spreading quickly in
society, organizations and economics. Social software has
created a multitude of success stories such as wikipedia.org and
the development of the Linux operating system. Therefore,
more and more enterprises regard social software as a means for
further improvement of their business processes and business
models. For example, they integrate their customers into
product development by using blogs to capture ideas for new
products and features. Thus, business processes have to be
adapted to new communication patterns between customers and
the enterprise: for example, the communication with the
customer is increasingly a bi-directional communication with
the customer and among the customers. Social software also
offers new possibilities to enhance business processes by
improving the exchange of knowledge and information, to
speed up decisions, etc. Social software is based on four
principles: weak ties, social production, egalitarianism and
mutual service provisioning.

. Weak ties

Weak-ties are spontaneously established contacts between
individuals that create new views and allow combining
competencies. Social software supports the creation of weak
ties by supporting to create contacts in impulse between non-
predetermined individuals

. Social Production

Social Production is the creation of artefacts, by combining the
input from independent contributors without predetermining the
way to do this. By this means it is possible to integrate new and
innovative contributions not identified or planned in advance.
Social mechanisms such as reputation assure quality in social
production in an a posteriori approach by enabling a collective
evaluation by all participants.
. Egalitarianism


Egalitarianism is the attitude of handling individuals equally.
Social software highly relies on egalitarianism and therefore
strives for giving all participants the same rights to contribute.
This is done with the intention to encourage a maximum of
contributors and to get the best solution fusioning a high
number of contributions, thus enabling the wisdom of the
crowds. Social software realizes egalitarianism by abolishing
hierarchical structures, merging the roles of contributors and
consumers and introducing a culture of trust.

. Mutual Service Provisioning

Social software abolishes the separation of service provider and
consumer by introducing the idea, that service provisioning is a
mutual process of service exchange. Thus both service provider
and consumer (or better prosumer) provide services to one
another in order co-create value. This mutual service
provisioning contrasts to the idea of industrial service
provisioning, where services are produced in separation from
the customer to achieve scaling effects.


Up to now, the interaction of social software and its underlying
paradigms with business processes have not been investigated
in depth. Therefore, the objective of the workshop is to explore
how social software interacts with business process
management, how business process management has to change
to comply with weak ties, social production, egalitarianism and
mutual service, and how business processes may profit from
these principles.



Workshop Goal

Based on the successful BPMS2’08, BPMS2’09, BPMS’10,
BPMS’11 workshops, the goal of the BPMS2’12 workshop is to
promote the integration of business process management with
social software and to enlarge the community pursuing the
theme.

Previous BPMS2 workshops

The BPMS2’08 workshop on BPM2008 in Milan had the 4th rank
in submissions from 8 workshops. Acceptance rate was 50 %. The
BPMS’09 attracted 13 submissions, from which 7 have been
accepted. The BPMS2’10 attracted 14 submissions, from which 8
have been accepted. The BPMS2’11 attracted 14 submissions,
from which 6 have been accepted. Both papers collaboratively
written by the BPMS2’08 and BPMS2’ 09 workshop authors have
been accepted for publication in the Journal of Software
Maintenance and Evolution: Research and Practice.

Workshop paper format

Position papers of up to 2500 words are sought. Position papers
that raise relevant questions, or describe successful or
unsuccessful practice, or describe experience will all be
welcome. Position papers will be assigned a 20-minute
presentation. Short papers of up to 1000 words can also be
submitted, and will be assigned a 10 minutes presentation.

Workshop Topics

1. New opportunities provided by social software for BPM
- How can business processes fit to business models
based on the paradigm of social production?
- Which new possibilities for the design of business
processes are created by social software?
- How are trust and reputation established in business
processes using social software?
- Are there business processes which req1 uire sociality,
especially when they are not well defined (as
production workflows) but collaborative or ad hoc?
- How do weak ties, social production, egalitarianism
and mutual service provisioning influence the design
of business processes?
- What is the impact on conceptual models for those
categories of business processes which are not well-
defined or that we do not wish to freeze using classical
business process enactment systems for instance?


2. Engineering next generation of business processes: BPM 2.0
- Do we need new BPM methods and/or paradigms to
cope with social software?
- Is there an influence of weak ties, social production,
egalitarianism and mutual service provisioning on
BPM methods themselves?
- Are there any similarities or relationships with process
mining techniques and also with workflow control and
role patterns?
- Which phases of the BPM lifecycle (Design,
Deployment, Performance, and Evaluation) are
affected the most by social software?
- How can BPM profit from using social software?
- Which types of social software can be used in which
phases of the BPM lifecycle?


3. Business process implementation support by social software
- Which kinds of social software can be used to
implement business processes?
- Which categories of business processes can profit from
social software?
- How does social software interact with WFMS or other
business process support systems?
- How can we use Wikis, Blogs etc. to support business
processes?
- What new kinds of business knowledge representation
are offered by social production?

Submission

Prospective authors are invited to submit papers for presentation
in any of the areas listed above. Only papers in English will be
accepted. Length of full papers must not exceed 12 pages
(There is no possibility to buy additional pages). Position papers
and tool reports should be no longer than 6 pages. Papers should
be submitted in the new LNBIP format
(http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-7-487211-0).
Papers have to present original research contributions not
concurrently submitted elsewhere. The title page must contain a
short abstract, a classification of the topics covered, preferably
using the list of topics above, and an indication of the
submission category (regular paper/position paper/tool report).

The paper selection will be based upon the relevance of a paper to
the main topics, as well as upon its quality and potential to
generate relevant discussion. All the workshop papers will be
published by Springer as a post-proceeding volume (to be sent
around 4 months after the workshop) in their Lecture Notes in
Business Information Processing (LNBIP) series.

Activities

All papers will be published on workshop wiki
(www.bpms2.org) before the workshop, so that everybody can
learn about the problems that are important for other
participants. A blog will be used to encourage and support
discussions. The workshop will consist of long and short paper
presentations, brainstorming sessions and discussions. The
workshop report will be created collaboratively using a wiki. A
special issue over all workshops will be published in a journal
(decision in progress).
