Special Issue on: "Knowledge Strategies in Learning Organisations" - International Journal on Learning and Intellectual Capital

Posted on 07:30 by Unknown

Special Issue on: "Knowledge Strategies in Learning Organisations"

Guest Editors:
Constanţa-Nicoleta Bodea and H.C. Constantin Bratianu, Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies, Romania

Knowledge management and learning organisation are two powerful concepts developed in recent decades and implemented significantly in the last few years. In his seminal book, The Fifth Discipline, Peter Senge (1990, p.14) underlined the fact that a learning organisation is “an organization that is continually expanding its future. For such an organization, it is not enough merely to survive.” Thus, Senge suggested the need for integrating knowledge management and learning organisation into strategic management.

The purpose of this special issue is to analyse the trend of integrating these basic concepts, and to understand the pragmatic ways of building up knowledge strategies for developing learning organisations. Knowledge increasingly becomes a strategic resource, and knowledge management a necessary dynamic capability required to achieve a competitive advantage.

You are invited to contribute to this challenging interdisciplinary domain with your research, focusing mainly on the following topics below.

Subject Coverage

Suitable topics include but are not limited to:

  • Knowledge dynamics in the framework of learning organisations
  • Organisational learning and learning organisations
  • Dynamic capabilities for learning organisations
  • Intergenerational learning in learning organisations
  • Universities as learning organisations
  • Knowledge strategies
  • Knowledge management systems
  • Computational intelligence

Notes for Prospective Authors

Submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. (N.B. Conference papers may only be submitted if the paper was not originally copyrighted and if it has been completely re-written).

All papers are refereed through a peer review process. A guide for authors, sample copies and other relevant information for submitting papers are available on the Author Guidelines page.

Important Dates

Paper submission deadline: 30 November, 2012

Notification of authors: 30 January, 2013

Special Issue on: "Social Knowledge Discovery and Management" - International Journal of Social Network Mining

Posted on 02:30 by Unknown

Special Issue on: "Social Knowledge Discovery and Management"

Guest Editors:
Guandong Xu, Victoria University, Australia
Toshiyuki Amagasa, University of Tsukuba, Japan
Wu Zhiang, Nanjing University of Finance and Economics, China
Carson Leung, University of Manitoba, Canada

With the rising popularity of social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo Answer, etc.), some types of spontaneous experience are being gained by daily users. This type of experience can be recognised as a particular way to cultivate domain knowledge.

One typical instance is friend-sourcing. Friend-sourcing gathers social information in a social context which can be used to personalise users’ computing experiences, for example to aid answering questions for topics comprehensible only to a few of a user’s friends. That is, people search on the web (i.e. social environment) to find solutions for issues that they are dealing, rather than finding them through traditional methods.

This reveals not only the problems that are being solved but also the process through which knowledge is discovered based upon the experience of other people. In these ways it is said that paradigms such as social computing and social networking have changed the behaviour of human beings.

In this context, knowledge discovery is the process of automatic extraction of interesting and useful knowledge from very large data, whereas knowledge utilisation consists of a range of strategies and practices to identify, create, represent, distribute and enable the adoption of novel insights and experiences for decision making. It is critical that issues regarding knowledge discovery and management are investigated. Various considerations should be carefully identified from both theoretical and practical perspectives to ensure the successful incorporation of these technologies.

This special issue aims to provide a forum for a timely, in-depth presentation of problems, current studies and solutions regarding how knowledge is discovered and managed in a socialised environment to facilitate human experience and satisfaction. Authors are encouraged to submit research papers on latest trends in technologies, techniques, methods and applications associated with social knowledge discovery and management.

Subject Coverage

Suitable topics include but are not limited to:

  • Social knowledge creation, sharing and management
  • Semantic web, linked data and knowledge representation for the social web
  • Social knowledge modelling
  • Validation and verification of user-generated content
  • Temporal and spatial analysis for complex data

CALL FOR PAPERS

2nd International Workshop on evidenced-based Technology Enhanced Learning (ebTEL 2013)

In conjunction with the PAAMS 2013 Conference
University of Salamanca (Spain)

Salamanca, Spain, 22-24 May, 2013
http://ebtel.usal.es

SCOPE

Research on Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) investigates how information and communication technologies can be designed in order to support pedagogical activities. The Evidence based Design (EBD) of a system bases its decisions on empirical evidence and effectiveness. The evidence-based TEL workshop (ebTEL) brings together TEL and EBD. The workshop aims at collecting contributions concerning evidence based TEL systems, like their design following EBD principles as well as success stories or best practices that educators, education stakeholders or educational psychologists used to improve their students' learning experience, in particular for students with specific difficulties (e.g. poor/slow readers, students living in impoverished communities or families).

The previous edition of ebTEL collected TEL contributions from computer science, artificial intelligence, evidence-based medicine, educational psychology and pedagogy. Like the previous edition, the international ebTEL´13 edition wants to be a forum in which TEL researchers and practitioners alike can discuss innovative evidence-based ideas, projects, and lessons related to TEL. The meeting will be held in Salamanca on May 22nd-24th 2013, in parallel with the PAAMS'13 International Conference.

Deadline Extension: The 1st Int'l Workshop on Social Knowledge Discovery and Utilization (SKDU 2012) @ ASNONAM 2012

Posted on 07:17 by Unknown
PAPER SUBMISSION DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED! May 21, 2012 PST

CALL FOR PAPERS

The 1st Int'l Workshop on Social Knowledge Discovery and Utilization
SKDU2012
http://people.cs.aau.dk/~rpan/skdu/

In conjunction with IEEE/ACM ASONAM2012, Istanbul, Turkey,
August 26-29, 2012. (http://www.asonam2012.etu.edu.tr/)

OVERVIEW

Today the emergence of web-based communities and hosted services such as
social networking sites, microbloggings, wikis and folksonomies, brings in
tremendous freedom of Web autonomy and facilitate collaboration and
knowledge sharing between users. Along with the interaction between users
and computers, social cyberspace is rapidly becoming an important part of
our digital experience, ranging from digital textual information to diverse
multimedia forms. These aspects and characteristics constitute of the core
of second generation of Web. Some sorts of on-the-fly experience is learned
and obtained by daily users. This type of experience can, in addition, be
recognized as a particular way to cultivate domain knowledge. One typical
instance is friend-sourcing. Friend-sourcing gathers social information in a
social context, which information can be used to personalize users's
computing experiences, for example to aid question answering for topics
comprehensible only to a few of a user's friends.

A prominent challenge lies in modeling and mining this vast pool of data to
extract, represent and distribute the meaningful knowledge and to utilize
structures and dynamics of the social knowledge, such as emerging social
networks residing in the social media, for better user experience and
satisfaction. This workshop attempts to fill the gap between social
experience and knowledge discovery and utiliztion, encouraging to share
achievements, experiments, and ideas from the perspective of knowledge
discovery and data mining, and to propose a range of strategies and
practices to identify, create, represent, distribute, and enable the
adoption of novel insights and experiences for knowledge utilization.

TOPICS OF INTEREST

The main goals of the workshop are: (1) to create a platform to discuss
latest issues, trends, solutions, and cutting-edge research strategies in
knowledge discovery and utilization in context of social cyberspace; (2) to
bring together acdemic researchers and industrial practitioners to discuss
problems, current studies, and solutions on how the knowledge is discovered
and utilized in a socialized environment to facilitate human experience and
satisfaction.

We solicit original and high quality submissions addressing all aspects of
this field. The topics of interest include, but are not be limited to the
following:

- Computational models for social media
- Influence, trust, and privacy
- Search in social networks and social media
- Interoperability among social applications and social media
- Techniques for social-network analysis/mining and for the analysis of social-media phenomena
- Adversarial blogging and counter measures
- Counter-Terror social network analysis
- Social networking security risks
- Social engineering through social networks
- Data privacy in Social Networks
- Secure information sharing in online communities
- Social networking safety
- Security issues in mobile social networking
- Trust-based social networks
- Anonymization of social network datasets
- Link analysis and network structure discovery
- Community detection and evolution
- Blog search and retrieval
- Group interaction, collaboration, and recommendation
- Knowledge discovery (collective wisdom, trend analysis, and topic detection)
