The exponential growth of the social web poses challenges and new opportunities for recommender systems. The Social Web has turned information consumers into active contributors creating massive amounts of information. Finding relevant and interesting content at the right time and in the right context is challenging for existing recommender approaches. At the same time, social systems by their definition encourage interaction between users and both online content and other users, thus generating new sources of knowledge for recommender systems. Web 2.0 users explicitly provide personal information and implicitly express preferences through their interactions with others and the system (e.g. commenting, friending, rating, etc.). These various new sources of knowledge can be leveraged to improve recommendation techniques and develop new strategies which focus on social recommendation. The Social Web provides huge opportunities for recommender technology and in turn recommender technologies can play a part in fuelling the success of the Social Web phenomenon.

The goal of this workshop is to bring together researcher and practitioners to explore, discuss, and understand challenges and new opportunities for recommender systems and the Social Web.

* Social network and folksonomy development: Recommending friends, tags, bookmarks, blogs, music, communities etc.
* Leveraging models of user behavior on the Social Web for recommendation
* Recommender systems mash-ups, intelligent user interfaces, rich media recommender systems
* Collaborative knowledge authoring, collective intelligence
* Topic emergence and evolution on the Social Web and their role in recommendation process
* Recommender applications involving users or groups directly in the recommendation process
* Exploiting folksonomies, social network information, user interactions, and communities in the recommendation process
* The role of context in Social Web recommendation
* Trust and reputation aware social recommendations
* Semantic Web recommender systems, use of ontologies or microformats
* Empirical evaluation of social recommender techniques, success and failure measures
* Case studies and novel fielded social recommender applications
* Economy of community-based systems: Using recommenders to encourage users to contribute and sustain participation
* Social recommender systems in the enterprise
* Recommendation for groups

We also encourage submissions which relate research results from other areas to the workshop topics.

SUBMISSIONS AND STYLE

We solicit short and long papers as well as research demos on all aspects of recommender systems in the Social Web. Papers should be formatted according to the style guide of RecSys'13.

Long papers present original research work and can be of up to 8 pages in length. Short papers report on work in progress and can have up to 4 pages. Presenters of demo systems are asked to submit short papers describing their system.

Paper selection will be based on a peer review process; there will be no blind review process - author names and affiliations should be included in the paper.

At least one author of each accepted paper must register for the workshop.

Social networks have quickly become the key organizing principle of
Internet communication and collaboration. Examples include connecting
friends and colleagues (such as Facebook or LinkedIn) to online social
media sites (YouTube, Flickr, and so on) to large-scale information
sharing communities (such as reddit and Yahoo! Answers) to crowd-based
funding services (Kickstarter and IndieGoGo) to Web-scale crowdsourcing
systems (Amazon Mechanical Turk or Crowdflower), and so on. Although
Internet-enabled social networks offer tremendous opportunities,
widespread interest in and growth of these systems raises new risks and
growing concerns. For instance, social network users can be bullied, their
pictures can be stolen, or their status posts can reach unwanted
audiences. Even when profiles don't list any information, social graphs
can be analyzed to infer personal information. Risks are also related to
identity management because, in these social scenarios, an individual's
online identity, which is strictly related to reputation and trust, is less and
less virtual and has more and more impact on real, offline life. A battle
now exists between individual privacy and the interests of the system at
large.

This special issue aims to bring together new research results from a
variety of backgrounds that address these common core challenges. Topics
of particular interest include

(*) methods for protecting privacy in social networks;
(*) algorithms, theories, and systems for detecting deception in social
networks;
(*) privacy-preserving methods for data access and data mining;
(*) identity theft in social networks;
(*) identity management in social networks;
(*) online and social identity; and
(*) trust and reputation in social networks.

Editors' note: We encourage submissions from both academic and industrial
practitioners, especially as they pertain to open source tools or
products, but content must have technical merit, not be an advertisement.

Submission Guidelines

All submissions must be original manuscripts of fewer than 5,000 words,
focused on Internet technologies and implementations. All manuscripts are
subject to peer review on both technical merit and relevance to IC's
international readershipâ€"primarily practicing engineers and academics
who are looking for material that introduces new technology and broadens
familiarity with current topics. We do not accept white papers, and we
discourage strictly theoretical or mathematical papers. To submit a

### Scope ###
Over the last two decades, many organizations and individuals have relied on electronic collaboration between distributed teams of humans, computer applications, and/or autonomous robots to achieve higher productivity and produce joint products that would have been impossible to develop without the contributions of multiple collaborators. Technology has evolved from standalone tools, to open systems supporting collaboration in multi-organizational settings, and from general purpose tools to specialized collaboration grids. Future collaboration solutions that fully realize the promises of electronic collaboration require advancements in networking, technology and systems, user interfaces and interaction paradigms, and inter operation with application-specific components and tools.

### Paper Submission ###
We invite original research papers that have not been previously published and are not currently under review for publication elsewhere. Contributions addressing all areas related to collaborative networking, technology and systems, and applications are solicited. The submitted manuscript should closely reflect the final paper as it will appear in the Proceedings. Submitted papers should be 10 pages in two-column IEEE proceeding format. The papers can be submitted in regular track or Industry/Application track.

### Workshops Proposals ###
Proposals for half-day or full day workshops that focus on CollaborateCom 2013 related themes are solicited. Workshop proposals should be at most five pages, including a biographical sketch of each instructor, and submitted to the Workshop Chairs. Proposals will be evaluated based on the expertise and experience of the organizers and the relevance and importance of the subject matter. Please refer to call for workshop proposals for details.

### Panels Proposals ###
Proposals for panel discussions that focus on future visions for collaborative networking, applications, and work sharing are preferred. Potential panel organizers should submit a panel proposal of at most five pages, including biographical sketches of the proposed panelists to the Panel Chairs.

### Tutorials Proposals ###
Proposals for full and half-day tutorials are solicited. Tutorials are intended to enhance the technical program, and as such they should be relevant to collaborative computing, networking, worksharing, and applications. Potential tutorial presenters should submit a tutorial proposal of at most three pages, including: description of potential audience and background knowledge expected from the audience, if any; tutorial description; biographical sketch of presenter(s).

### Publication ###

With the emergence of Computational Social Science as a field of collaboration between
computer scientists and social scientists, the study of social networks and processes
on these networks (social contagion) has been gaining interest. Many topics of traditional
sociological interest (such as the diffusion of innovations, emergence of norms,
identification of influencer) can now be studied using detailed computational models and
extensive simulation. The advent and popularity of online social media also allows the
creation of massive data sets which can inform models and underlying sociological theory.
The ubiquity of "smart devices" (such as smart phones) also provides opportunities to
gather extensive data on the behaviors and interactions of humans in "real space".

The goal of this symposium is to bring together a community of researchers interested
in addressing these issues and to encourage interdisciplinary approaches to these problems.
We specifically encourage participation and contributions from many communities, including
computer science, statistics, mathematics, the social, behavioral and economic sciences,
and the medical and health sciences.

Three postdoc positions in social data management @ University of Bologna, Italy

We invite applications for three post-doctoral researcher positions in social data management on project IMPACT (http://impact.cs.unibo.it), funded by the Italian Ministry for Education, University and Research. The positions are at the Department of Computer Science, University of Bologna, Italy (http://www.informatica.unibo.it).

All three positions are for 12+12 months (the contract can be renewed after the first year by mutual agreement). Annual gross salary will be around 23.000 Euro  (please, notice that the amount is tax free (IRPEF exempt) and includes social security). Expected starting date: September 2013 (flexible). The main goal of the IMPACT research program is to develop methodologies and algorithms to store and efficiently retrieve information from Social Network Sites and to identify relevant structural and communication patterns. The project is hosted by the University of Bologna (http://www.eng.unibo.it), one of the oldest universities in the World in a beautiful "young" city offering lots of cultural initiatives (http://www.bolognawelcome.com/en/). Requirements:

OVERVIEW

Social networking is profoundly changing the way that people communicate
and interact on a daily basis. As eScience is inherently collaborative,
social networks can serve as a vital means for supporting information and
resource sharing, aiding discovery of connected researchers, improving
communication between globally dispersed individuals, and even measuring
scientific impact. Consequently, eScience systems are increasingly
integrating social networking concepts to improve collaboration. For
example, researcher profiles and groups exist in publication networks,
such as VIVO, Google Scholar and Mendeley, and eScience infrastructures,
such as MyExperiment, NanoHUB and GlobusOnline all utilize social
networking principles to enhance scientific collaboration. In addition to
incorporating explicit social networks, eScience infrastructures can also
leverage implicit social networks extracted from relationships expressed
in collaborative activities (e.g. publication authorship or!
citation networks).

This workshop aims to bring together researchers from a diverse range of
areas to establish a new community focused on the application of social
networking to analyze and improve scientific collaboration. There are two
complementary areas of focus for this workshop 1) how to efficiently share
information, infrastructure and software resources, such as data and tools
through social networks, and 2) how to analyze and enhance scientific
collaboration through implicit and explicit social networks, for example
analyzing scientific impact through citation networks or improving
collaboration by associating data and tools with networks of publications
and researchers.

WORKSHOP SCOPE

The topics of interest are, but not limited to, the use of social networks
to analyze and improve collaborative eScience:

· Social network based resource sharing and collaboration architectures
· New forms of collaborative computing and resource sharing

Overview

Social network platforms have rapidly changed the way that people
communicate and interact. Platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and
LinkedIn enable the establishment of and participation in digital
communities; and the representation, documentation and exploration of
social interactions as well as relationships. Consequently, electronic
relationships are quickly becoming intertwined with their real world
counterparts. Social networks have always served as a vital means for the
sharing and exchange of informal information, improving the understanding
of relationships, improving communication between globally dispersed
individuals, and more recently measuring scientific impact. As social
network platforms as well as the "apps" they enable become more
sophisticated social networks can also serve as a means of service,
resource and data sharing. Or in other words, social networks can
facilitate the construction of Social Clouds: the provisioning of Cloud
infrastructure through social network constructs.

As the cost of personal computing has decreased, the capabilities and
resources of Internet connected users has dramatically increased. We know
from volunteer computing that at the edges of the Internet, resource
owners are willing to make their resources freely available for “good
uses”. Taking Facebook as an example, and discounting the 60% of users
that access Facebook with mobile devices, skimming just 1% of users’
compute resources would yield a computational infrastructure 4 times
larger than the total resources contributed to the SETI@home project. 2%
would begin to be comparable to a top500.org supercomputer. In addition,
crowdsourcing leverages the capabilities of both skilled and unskilled
communities of individuals to perform a wide variety of tasks.

However, constructing a compute, data or resource sharing platform through
a social network is not straightforward. There are many challenges that
sit at the intersection of computer science, information systems,
computational social science and economics that must be addressed. At the
centre of this workshop is the question: How can members of a social
network efficiently share infrastructure and software services across
digital relationships?

In order to address different aspects of this question, the following
topics are of (representative) interest:
- Social network-based resource sharing in Cloud environments
- Forming "edge" Clouds through user contributed resources and services
- Peer-2-Peer resource sharing to form distributed Cloud systems
- Cloud federation through user provisioned resources

CSCW, the ACM’s conference on Computer Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computing, is an international and interdisciplinary conference focused on how technology intersects with social practices. The 2014 CSCW conference will be held in Baltimore, Maryland from February 15th – 18th, 2014. Paper submissions are due on May 31st, 2013.

We invite submissions that detail existing practices, inform the design or deployment of systems, or introduce novel systems, interaction techniques, or algorithms. The scope of CSCW includes, but is not limited to, social computing and social media, crowdsourcing, technologically-enabled or enhanced communication, CSCL and related educational technologies (e.g., MOOCs), multi-user input technologies (e.g., surface computing), collaboration, information sharing, and coordination. It includes socio-technical activities at work, in the home, in education, in healthcare, in the arts, for socializing, and for entertainment. New results or new ways of thinking about, studying, or supporting shared activities can be in these and related areas:

* Social and crowd computing. Studies, theories, designs, mechanisms, systems, and/or infrastructures addressing social media, social networking, user-generated content, wikis, blogs, online gaming, crowdsourcing, collective intelligence, virtual worlds, collaborative information seeking, etc.
* System design. Hardware, architectures, infrastructures, interaction design, technical foundations, algorithms, and/or toolkits that enable the building of new social and collaborative systems and experiences.
* Theories and models. Critical analysis or organizing theory with clear relevance to the design or study of social and collaborative systems.
* Empirical investigations. Findings, guidelines, and/or ethnographic studies relating to technologies, practices, or use of communication, collaboration, and social technologies.
* Methodologies and tools. Novel methods or combinations of approaches and tools used in building systems or studying their use.
* Domain-specific social and collaborative applications. Including for healthcare, transportation, gaming (for enjoyment or productivity), ICT4D, sustainability, education, accessibility, collective intelligence, global collaboration, or other domains.
* Collaboration systems based on emerging technologies. Mobile and ubiquitous computing, game engines, virtual worlds, multi-touch technologies, novel display technologies, vision and gesture recognition systems, big data infrastructures, MOOCs, crowd labor markets, SNSes, sensor-based environments, etc.
* Crossing boundaries. Studies, prototypes, or other investigations that explore interactions across disciplines, distance, languages, generations, and cultures, to help better understand how to transcend social, temporal, and/or spatial boundaries.

Papers should detail original research contributions. Papers must report new research results that represent a contribution to the field. They must provide sufficient details and support for their results and conclusions. They must cite relevant published research or experience, highlight novel aspects of the submission, and identify the most significant contributions. Introduction:
Recent rapid advances in mobile cellular networks and telecommunications
have introduced Opportunistic Mobile Social Networks as an interesting topic
to the research community, one that has started to receive much attention
from practitioners, scholars, and the general public. An opportunistic
mobile social network can be described as a platform that provides services
via hand-held and wireless devices, mainly for the purpose of fostering and
maintaining social interactions and connections. Therefore, an opportunistic
mobile social network can be considered a form of social network where
services are provided with mobility as an added value. Thanks to mobility,
many emergent applications related to social networking are now available
for individuals, business enterprises, and governments.

Objective:
The main goal of this book is to collect the recent development on
theoretical and algorithmic aspects of the opportunistic mobile social
networks. This book will be of particular value to academics, researchers,
practitioners, government officials, business organizations (e.g.,
executives, marketing professionals, resource managers, etc.), and even
customers -- working, participating, or those interested in fields related
to social networks. The content of the book will be especially useful for
students in areas like social networks, informatics, wireless networks, data
mining, and administrative sciences and management, but also applies to
students of education, economy, or law, who would benefit from the
information, cases, and examples therein.

Recommended topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Part I: Social Networks and Complex Networks
* Part II: Opportunistic Networks
* Part III: Opportunistic Mobile Social Networks
* Part IV: Applications

Submission Procedure:
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on February 15, 2013, a
2-3 page chapter proposal clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his
or her proposed chapter. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by
March 1, 2013 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter
guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by June 1, 2013. All
submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis.
Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.

Today the emergence of Web-based communities and hosted services
such as social networking sites, wikis and folksonomies, brings in
tremendous freedom of Web autonomy and facilitate collaboration and
knowledge sharing between users. Along with the interaction between users
and computers, social media are rapidly becoming an important part of our
digital experience, ranging from digital textual information to diverse
multimedia forms. These aspects and characteristics constitute of the core
of second generation of Web.

A prominent challenge lies in modeling and mining this vast pool of data to
extract, represent and exploit meaningful knowledge and to leverage
structures and dynamics of emerging social networks residing in the social
Web. Social networks and social Web mining combines data mining with social
computing as a promising direction and offers unique opportunities for
developing novel algorithms and tools ranging from text and content mining
to link mining.

The 4th International Workshop on Social Networks and Social Web Mining on
in conjunction with DASFAA 2013 will bring together the academia,
researchers and industrial practitioners from computer science, information
systems, statistics, sociology, behavior science and organization science
discipline, and provide a forum for recent advances in the field of social
networks and social media, from the perspectives of data management and

In our first workshop on Modeling Social Media (MSM 2010 in
Toronto, Canada), we explored various different models of social
media ranging from user modeling, hypertext models, software
engineering models, sociological models and framework models.
In our second workshop (MSM 2011 in Boston, USA), we addressed
the user interface aspects of modeling social media.  In our third
workshop (MSM 2012 in Milwaukee, USA), we looked at the collective
intelligence in social media, i.e. making sense of the content and
context from social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter,
Google+ and Foursquare by analyzing tweets, tags, blog posts,
likes, posts and check-ins, in order to create a new knowledge
and semantic meaning. With this year's workshop we aim to attract
researchers from all over the world working in the field of social
media mining, modeling and end-user applications. In particular,
we would like to invite researchers working on the important field
of "recommender systems" for social media which is gaining more
and more in importance due to the increasing information overload
problem.

The goal of this workshop is to continue our vibrant discussion on
social media mining and modelling with a special focus on
recommender systems for social media applications.  Hence, the
workshop aims to attract and discuss various novel aspects of social
media mining, modelling and doing recommendations on top of these
data/models. In short the workshop invites topics such as social
media mining methods/techniques, novel approaches to model users
or things in social media, frameworks to harvest and/or display
social media data and new social media recommender
methods/techniques/algorithms or interfaces supporting users for
instance in information finding, meta-data application etc. Thus,
our goal is to bring together researchers and practitioners from
all over the world with diverse backgrounds interested in 1)
exploring different perspectives and approaches to mine (complex)
and analyse social media data, 2) modelling social media users and
3) building applications such as recommender systems on top of this
data/models.

We invite submissions which may include the following topics, but
are not limited to:
* novel mining methods/techniques or approaches for social media
* novel approaches to model users or things in social media
* novel frameworks to harvest and/or display social media data
* novel recommender methods/techniques/algorithms or interfaces to
 recommend "things" to people in social media
* new visualisation approaches for recommender systems in social media
* evaluation methods/techniques/reports for mining/modelling or
 recommending things/people in social media
* privacy and security issues  or constraints in social media
 mining/modelling and recommendations
* scalability issues of mining, modelling and recommending
 people/things/etc. in social media
* novel (social media) datasets (incl. a detailed description) which
 are of potential interest for researchers all over the world working
 in the field of social media mining/modelling/analytics and/or
 recommender systems

Submissions: We solicit short position papers (1-2 pages) and
peer-reviewed research papers (4-8 pages) in the ACM conference
paper style.

*AIMS & TOPICS OF INTEREST*

Recently, social network research has advanced rapidly with the prevalence
of the online social websites and instant messaging social communications
systems. In addition to utilizing a desktop computer to write blogs, upload
photos and chat with friends, an explosively increasing number of people are
now used to share personal location information to friends on the fly with
mobile devices, thanks to the development of broadband wireless networks and
location sensing technologies. These social network systems are usually
characterized by complex network structures and abundant contextual
information. Moreover, by incorporating the spatial dimension, mobile and
location-based social networks are now immersed in people¡¦s everyday life
via numerous innovative websites, such Facebook Places, Foursquare, Buddy
Beacon, FindMe, Loopt, and Weibo. In addition, mobile social networks can be
exploited to foster many interesting applications and analysis, such as
recommendations of locations and travel planning of friends, location-based
viral marketing, community discovery, group mobility and behavior modeling,
etc.

Researchers are increasingly interested in addressing a wide spectrum of
challenges in mobile social networks to extract useful knowledge, including
identifying common static topological structures and dynamic evolutions of
social networks, and exploiting location-based and contextual information
embedded with mobile social networks to find out useful insights. The
insights can provide important implications on community discovery, anomaly
detection, trend prediction with the applications in many domains, such as
recommendation systems, information retrieval, future prediction, and so on.
In light of the above crucial need, sophisticated data mining and query
processing techniques on both social and spatial dimensions are demanding
for extracting representative information from mobile social network. In
addition, the data generated from social networks and social media streams
at any time in any place have outpaced the capability to process, analyze,
and mining those datasets. It is thus imperative to develop scalable and
efficient algorithms for processing and mining Big Data generated from
mobile social networks. In contrast to other areas in data management and
mining, social and human factors are also important and thereby encouraged
to be properly included in multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research
of mobile social networks.

The 1st IEEE International Workshop on Mobile Data Management, Mining, and
Computing on Social Networks (MobiSocial 2013) will serve as a forum for
researchers and technologists to discuss the state-of-the-art, present their
contributions, and set future directions in data management and mining for
mobile social networks.

The topics of interest related to this workshop include, but are not limited
to:

*SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS*

Authors are invited to submit original manuscripts, neither submitted nor
accepted for publication in any other workshop, conference, or journal. The
page limits for regular papers and position papers are 6 pages and 3 pages
respectively, including all figures, tables, and references. The submitted
papers must be written in English, and formatted using the IEEE style:

Every submitted paper will be carefully reviewed by at least three Program
Committee members ensure the high quality of the accepted papers. Reviewers
are not required to read the appendices and the paper should be intelligible
without them. Authors are invited to send the manuscripts through EasyChair:

Submission to this workshop implies the willingness to participate and
present in the workshop. Registration of at least one of the authors for
each accepted paper is mandatory. Authors of accepted papers must also sign
