We are pleased to invite you to participate in the premier annual event on research and applications of recommendation technologies, the Seventh ACM Conference on Recommender Systems (RecSys 2013). The conference will be held on October 12-16, 2013, Hong Kong, China. Previous conferences have been distinguished by a strong level of interaction between researchers and practitioners in the sharing of ideas, problems and solutions, and the 2013 conference will continue in this tradition. The fully-refereed proceedings will be published by the ACM and, like past RecSys proceedings, are expected to be widely read and cited.

All submissions and reviews will be handled electronically in PDF format. RecSys 2013 submissions should be prepared according to the standard ACM SIG proceedings format. For your convenience, we provide paper templates in Microsoft Word and LaTeX on the conference website. More details on the submission procedure are available at http://recsys.acm.org/recsys13/submission.html.

There are two paper submission categories:

Long paper submissions should report on substantial contributions of lasting value. The maximum length is 8 pages in the standard ACM SIG proceedings format. Each accepted long paper will be presented in a plenary session as part of the main conference program. We expect the review process to be highly selective: in 2012, the acceptance rate for full papers was 20%.

Short paper submissions typically discuss exciting new work that is not yet mature enough for a long paper. The maximum length is 4 pages in the standard ACM SIG proceedings format. Each accepted short paper will be presented in a poster session. The presentation may include a system demonstration.

Note: Please note that rejected long paper submissions will not be automatically considered as short papers.

We construe recommender systems broadly, including applications ranging from e-commerce to social networking, platforms from web to mobile and beyond, and a wide variety of technologies ranging from collaborative filtering to case-based reasoning. Topics of interest for RecSys 2013 include (but are not limited to):

RecSys 2013 is pleased to invite demos, proposals for workshops and tutorials to be held in conjunction with the conference.

The RecSys demo session provides an exciting way for researchers and developers to present new recommender ideas, show off their work, and get valuable feedback from the recommender systems community.

The goal of the workshops is to provide additional venues for presenting research on topics of interest and an informal forum to discuss research questions and challenges.

The goal of the tutorials is to provide the larger conference community an opportunity to learn about recommender system concepts and techniques and serve as a venue to share presenters’ expertise with the global community of recommender system researchers and practitioners.

We actively encourage both researchers and industry practitioners to submit demos and proposals. The details for demos, workshops and tutorials will be announced later.

The main objective of the MobiWIS workshops is to provide a forum to discuss specific topics related to mobile web information systems, also offering to researchers and professionals a good opportunity to present their work in a more focused way than the conference itself, and to obtain feedback from an interested community. Proposal for workshops on emerging topics with an evident attitude to generate significant interest in the MobiWIS community are highly encouraged.


PUBLICATION OF PROCEEDINGS

All papers accepted for presentation at workshops will be included in a volume published by the CCIS Springer series, indexed in DBLP, Google Scholar, EI-Compendex, Mathematical Reviews, SCImago, and Scopus, and also submitted for the inclusion in ISI Proceedings.


PROPOSAL FORMAT

Researchers interested to submit a workshop proposal to the organizing committee should send the intended workshop aims, format and organizers following this format:

- Title of the workshop - Workshop duration (half day/one day).

- Names and affiliations of organizers, plus a one-paragraph biographical sketch for each organizer, describing relevant qualifications and experience.

- Workshop rationale and scope - Prior history of the workshop, if any, including number of submissions, number of accepted papers, and number of attendees.

- Short description of the plan for publicizing the workshop.

- Draft of the workshop call for paper.

- Tentative list of the PC members.

- Workshop Website: tentative address, or address of previous edition (if applicable).

- Short description of any post-workshop activities (e.g., organizing a journal special issue)

Call for Workshops

The International Conference on Conceptual Modeling is the leading international forum for presenting and discussing current research and applications in which the major emphasis is on conceptual modeling. Topics of interest span the entire spectrum of conceptual modeling including research and practice in areas such as theories of concepts and ontologies underlying conceptual modeling, methods and tools for developing and communicating conceptual models, and techniques for transforming conceptual models into effective implementations.

ER 2013 will host a number of workshops addressing different areas related to conceptual modeling that complement the main ER 2013 conference. Workshops are intended to serve as an intensive collaborative forum for exchanging innovative ideas in conceptual modeling. We encourage prospective workshop organizers to submit proposals for highly interactive workshops focusing on either in-depth analysis or broad-ranging approaches to emerging topics in conceptual modeling.

Submission Guidelines

A workshop proposal should be about 3-5 pages long and contain the following information:

    * Title;

    * Topics;

    * Format and duration;

    * Type (academic and/or industrial);

    * Significance in relation to topics of the main conference;

    * Organizers (attach short CVs, limit of 2 pages each and pointing out their experience in organizing events);

    * Proposed program committee;

    * Expected submission volume and number of expected participants;

    * Any available information of any previous organization of the workshop, with an emphasis to submission and registration volumes.

Workshop proposals are reviewed based on the quality of the proposal, its relation to the main ER topics, and the likelihood to attract enough participants as well as the hosting capacity of the venue.

Exact workshop paper submission and author notification due dates are at the discretion of workshop organizers but must fit within the time-line indicated.

Proceedings of all ER workshops are to be published as a single volume of Springer LNCS to be distributed at the ER 2013 conference.

All the workshop papers should be limited to no more than 10 pages in LNCS format. It is expected that the organizers of ER workshops conform to the rules imposed by the ER steering committee such as the acceptance rate for all workshops will not exceed 40% and organizers are not allowed to submit their own papers to their workshop. Workshop proposals should be submitted by email to either of the workshop chairs listed below.

* A statement of goals for the workshop.

* The names of potential participants, such as program committee members.

WWW 2013 Call for Workshops

WWW 2013 will feature a number of co-located workshops that are intended to provide
a forum for researchers and practitioners in Web technologies to discuss and
exchange positions on current and emergent Web topics. Workshop attendants will
exchange ideas and experiences, establish common ground in research areas or
practical problems, and hopefully identify new opportunities for collaboration and
new directions for future activity. Preference will be given to timely topics that
will favor highly interactive discussions. WWW 2013 will offer logistic support for
the workshops, where registration, catering, room allocation and audio/visual will
be arranged by the conference organizers. The supported workshops will take place on
the 13th and 14th of May 2013, before the main conference, at the conference venue.

A workshop proposal must include :
       • A concise title.
       • The names and affiliations of the organizers; a typical workshop should count no
more than three co-chairs affiliated with different organizations.
       • Proposed duration of the workshop (half or full day.)
       • Preference for a date; but, the proposal must not be conditioned on the workshop
date, since it is likely that some workshops will not get their preferred date
       • A statement of the workshop's objective/goals
       • A statement detailing: Why is the workshop topic important? Why is the workshop
timely? How is it relevant to WWW?
       • A two-paragraph description of the workshop topic and themes.
       • If the workshop was conducted before, where and when was it conducted? (Please
give details on number of attendees, number of submissions, and acceptance ratio.
       • A description of the workshop format – how many papers do you hope to present,
how many invited speakers, type of activities (e.g., short paper presentation,
invited talks, demos, posters, etc.), and an approximate timeline (breaks should be
synchronized with scheduled breaks if possible.)
       • A description of how workshop submissions will be evaluated, and a tentative PC
list (with indication of whether PC members have already been contacted and/or have
expressed interest.)
       • An indication on whether the workshop registration will be open to all interested
registered parties or limited.
       • A short bio of the workshop organizers, including a description of their
qualifications relative to the topic area, and past experience in
organizing/facilitating workshops or research meetings.

Workshop proposals should be no more than five pages in length (10pt with reasonable
margins) and must be in PDF written in English.

The 17th Pacific-Asia Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (PAKDD 2013) is a leading international conference in the areas of data mining and knowledge discovery. It provides an international forum for researchers and industry practitioners to share their new ideas, original research results and practical development experiences from all KDD related areas, including data mining, data warehousing, machine learning, databases, statistics, knowledge acquisition and automatic scientific discovery, data visualization, causal induction and knowledge-based systems.

PAKDD 2013 seeks proposals for workshops on foundational and emerging topics in areas relevant to data mining. The PAKDD workshops provide an informal and vibrant opportunity for researchers and industry practitioners to share their research positions, original research results and practical development experiences on specific challenges and emerging issues. The workshop topics should be focused and cohesive so that the participants can benefit from interaction with each other.

A possible (non-exhaustive) list of topics include:

·         Foundational topics in data mining

·         Data mining and biology

·         Data mining and climate change

·         Data mining and finance

·         Data mining in social networks

·         Data mining and chemistry

·         Data mining for healthcare

·         Data mining for environmental sciences

·         Data mining on cloud computing

·         Data mining on specialized data types: structured, unstructured, semi-structured, streaming, spatio-temporal, text and noisy text, multimedia, etc.

·         Real life applications and success stories

The organizers and chairs of the workshop shall have full control on the call for papers, forming of program committees, review and selection of papers as well as planning the workshop program. HOWEVER, the program committee chairs are not allowed to submit papers to the workshops to ensure a fair review process. IN ADDITION, the chairs must state in the workshop CFP the following: "Submitting a paper to the workshop means that if the paper is accepted, at least one author should attend the workshop to present the paper." The registration fees for workshops will be determined by the conference (not the workshop itself). The fees will be paid to the conference, and the conference will provide workshop facilities including working notes printing, meeting room, coffee break, lunch, proceedings, etc.

Each workshop will have a right to include its outstanding papers in a LNCS/LNAI post Proceedings of PAKDD Workshops published by Springer. Under the program, the workshop chair must organize a review committee to select the outstanding papers from the papers presented in the workshop. Based on the reviews, each selected paper should be further improved for the camera ready version. The average acceptance rate of this selection process should be no higher than 50%. A detailed schedule of due dates for the paper selection and the collection of the camera ready versions will be announced immediately after the workshop.

Prospective workshop organizers should send a proposal (maximum three pages) with the following sections to the PAKDD 2013 Workshop Co-Chairs.

·         Title of the workshop

·         Objectives, scope, and contribution to the main conference

·         Names and contacts of key organizers and a tentative list of members of the program committee, along with links to their webpages.

·         Expected number of papers, attendees, and preliminary workshop format

Workshops will be either have a full day or a half day format. Prior discussions of candidate workshop organizers with the workshop chairs are strongly encouraged.
