Post-doctoral position at Oxford
The Database Research Group is offering a post-doctoral research assistantship on query planning for the deep web.
The position is for 1.5 years, with a possibility for extension.
It concerns generating query plans for querying sources accessible only via
web forms. The goal of the project is to create dynamic query plans that
gather data from sources, making use of meta-data such as integrity
constraints and access patterns, while gathering cost information on sources
on-the-fly.
Absolute requirements for the position are a Ph.D. in computer science and a
strong research track record, including significant implementation
experience. The most desirable research backgrounds would be web-based data
integration. But a background in AI (e.g. reinforcement learning). Those
working in other areas but with interest in how to gather information from
web datasources and a strong research track record, as expressed by
publications in top conferences and references, are encouraged to apply.
The project is led by Professor Michael Benedikt at Oxford's computer
science department. The post-doc will also interact heavily with the
database group at Oxford, which includes Georg Gottlob, Thomas Lukasiewicz,
and Dan Olteanu, and 10 other postdocs. The database group in turn works
closely with other researchers in information systems at Oxford, having
particular strengths in the areas of databases, knowledge representation,
and computational linguistics.
Official information on the position, including salary and benefits, can be
found at:

The key parts of the application are a CV, a short personal statement, and
references (preferably 3). The latter must be sent directly by the referees
to the CS department at:
